Veronica is a makeup artist and influencer who has taken the beauty industry by storm. She has made a name for herself in less than two years and has become an inspiration to many aspiring makeup artists. In this interview, Veronica shares her journey and the lessons she has learned along the way.
Hello Veronica, tell us about your journey and how you became who you are today?
My journey to makeup is definitely not your typical story! I actually started as a musician! As a singer/songwriter I’ve always found myself curious about everything in the field. It led me to play guitar, piano, and even ukulele. Same thing applied to the arts! I’ve always been artistically well rounded so I’ve always paid attention to the stylists and HMUAs I’ve worked with in the past! I’ve always been curious about how they brought the magic to life! My brother Armando Kole, a makeup artist as well, was actually the reason it all came full circle. I’d take him to my shows and tours, eventually, he took interest in makeup at a young age, and one day when looking for a trustworthy assistant, asked if I’d be willing to learn makeup. We dove into a two-week crash course on all things beauty and was thrown in the water on my first booking of a 6 girl bridal party. My family, and even myself, weren’t quite sure if I’d be able to take it on or if I’d stay interested but sure enough; I fell in love. From countless hours on YouTube, to test shooting, and now developing my own clientele - I’m beyond fortunate to be where I’m at less than 2 years later.
What inspired you to become an influencer/makeup artist?
My brother is my full inspiration regarding beauty. I really have the greatest teacher to learn from and role model to look to for continued advice and growth. I obviously love being inspired by other incredible artists in my field, but working alongside one of the greatest celebrity MUAs has truly given me all the tools and resources necessary to excel in beauty. I’m truly blessed to work WITH my beauty inspiration.
What is your go-to makeup product?
Probably the most difficult question possible. My favorite brands are Haus Labs, Patrick Ta Beauty, One Size, Tarte, Rare, Nars, and Fenty. Blush is my overall favorite step in the beauty process!
What have you learned about yourself since you became a makeup artist?
I’ve learned that possibilities are endless and to be as positive as possible. I grew up super negative (shielding it as “being a realist”) towards the entertainment industry because of the amount of “no’s” I’ve heard and received in my life. I think, now, that everything truly happened for a reason. I’ve found my place and I’ve never felt such positive energy or heard so many “yes’s” as I have in beauty. I even have daily mantras I follow! Mentality is EVERYTHING!
Who is someone you would love to do make-up on and why?
Obviously I’d love the opportunity to do glam for any of the Kardashians, absolute glam GOALS; I think my full circle moment though would be a musician I grew up inspired by. I grew up as an artist listening to Christina Aguilera and I’d LIVE to do her makeup. She’s also Ecuadorian like myself so I feel like we would vibe! Any musicians!!! Lady Gaga… if I ever… I’d be so happy I could die.
What advice would you like to give to all those followers that want to be where you are today?
Honestly, you gotta put the work in. Positive mindset and hard work. I’m not gonna lie, I had this handed to me on a silver platter; but that doesn’t mean it was easy. I took the opportunity I was given and truly embraced it with everything I had. If I didn’t truly love what I was doing, I wouldn’t do it, and I definitely wouldn’t continue to grow or be given the opportunities I have today. Beauty is NOT easy and definitely isn’t a career you should look to pursue “for the money” or “gratification” or “because it looks easy”. Beauty is a lot of hard work, research, and takes a whole lot of drive and commitment. Most of all positive mindset is KEY! It’s everything. Everything will fall into place the way it should.
What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?
I’d love to see my work on a billboard, soon hopefully! I see myself working for all the brands I’m dreaming of working with, and continuing to grow with the ones I already work with! Of course, all while on tour as an MUA for a dope musical artist. I mean… mindset am I right? But truly. I’m blessed to be where I am today and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to keep growing every day. This is only the beginning!
