The exhibit opened its doors at the Canvas at L.A. Live on January 21 and due to popular demand, it has extended its doors through the summer of 2022.
The museum experience, which is supported by Shakur's estate was created to help the viewers get a deeper understanding of the late artist's legacy and impact. This monumental project an immersive hybrid of a museum, art installation sensory experience.
As visitors enter “Wake Me When I’m Free,” they are handed innovative headphones that are triggered to interact with what the viewers are looking at. One of the first sights is a 10-foot statue of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti. Tupac had a tattoo of Nefertiti to pay homage to his mother, Afeni, whom he considered a "Black queen."
Wake Me When I’m Free Exhibit continues by taking its attendees through a one-of-a-kind journey. Every installment holds potential for a deeper understanding of his life.
